First, Right To Play would like to thank our dedicated supporters for making this year’s gala the most successful to date. You made this a banner year and filled our hearts with appreciation. That is why, with a heavy heart, we have cancelled our 20th Anniversary Gala on April 22nd in New York City, in accordance with the latest CDC recommendations to cancel all large gatherings.

We were very much looking forward to celebrating the years of commitment and backing from our honorees – Brad Smith of Microsoft, Dag Skattum of BlackRock and Olympic gold medalist Alyson Felix. While we do not have the opportunity to gather with them this year, we do have the opportunity to use their hard work and dedication to our mission as a catalyst to raise the much-needed funds to protect, educate and empower the world's most vulnerable children, who will no doubt be disproportionately affected by the rapid spread of the COVID-19 virus. Our work is more important today as at any other time in our history.

Our experience with the Ebola outbreak in Liberia in 2014 was proof that play can save lives. When the epidemic struck we applied our unique play-based approach to equip children with the critical knowledge and skills they needed to keep themselves, their families and their communities safe. We are working hard to do the same now. We are already adapting and implementing many of these games with the children in our programs to help them stay safe and prevent the spread of COVID-19. We are fully committed to continuing to deliver our programs wherever possible and have begun planning alternative approaches to be put in place on a case-by-case basis in communities where in-person delivery is no longer possible.

As we put our 20th Anniversary Gala plans aside to tackle the new challenges before us, please consider joining our efforts to protect this vulnerable population. We sincerely appreciate your support to help the most vulnerable among us.
